As state and local election officials of the United States, we recognize that the introduction of 440+ anti-voter laws across the country in 2021, the U.S. Senate’s failure to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, and the January 6th insurrection on our nation’s Capitol signals that we are facing a democratic crisis.
We as governors, secretaries of state, chief election officers, and administrators across the country are committed to saving our democracy: today and for generations to come. We pledge to use our power to protect our right to vote, stop voter suppression and election subversion, and to expand voting rights for future generations. We commit to doing everything in our power to champion policies and practices that ensure the freedom to vote, protect the right to vote through state-level voting rights acts, and resist efforts to subvert the will of the people in future elections.
